April Risteff, Ministry Lead of MFEP at Chaminade College Preparatory, West Hills, CA, sends us this update.
Earth Day (every day) was good. The students made posters, chalked around campus, had AM prayers, and had a lunchtime quiz and prizes. Our other celebrations have included two grants from the Marianist State Community and the Chaminade Parents’ Association, adding elements to our outdoor wellness garden, installing the three-bin system, beach clean-ups (with Heal the Bay and one of my colleagues, Paul), native plant giveaways (again with my colleagues, Paul and Ryan), a World Religions field trip to Wishtoyo Nature Preserve and Education Center in Malibu, water bottles to all incoming ninth graders (courtesy of Luis), the installation of two new water refilling stations, restarting our recycling pickup around campus (the students provide the service since our Physical Plant does not), Recycling truck that now comes every day instead of once/week, signage in classrooms to turn off lights when the room is not in use and a bigger presence on social media.
