Laura Koonce, Ministry Lead of Marianist Encounters and Vice President of Mission and HR at Saint Louis School, HI, sends us this update.
Pictures 1-4: Brotherhood Activity: The ninth graders, led by Nicole Shigeta, learned about the parable of the Prodigal Son and created a lesson plan to teach the elementary students about this parable. Their message to their younger brothers spoke about how sometimes we don't make the right choices; therefore, we need to recognize what we did wrong and indeed be sorry for our actions. But God's love is unconditional. God's love for us is not dependent on our faithfulness, and He is always willing to forgive us when we are sorry.
Picture 5: Crusader Hours: Community Service clean up at Joseph Kahahawai's gravesite. Students in grades 9-12, led by teacher Nicole Shigeta, attended Pueo Cemetary in Kalihi to pick up trash and cut the grass. At this gravesite lies Joseph Kahahawai, a once Saint Louis student who was killed in 1932. Involved in the infamous Massie Case, this racially charged murder case would make headlines across the nation, enrage Hawaii's native population, and galvanize the island's law enforcers and the nation's social elite. Dear Laura, great initiative! Thanks!
