Mark Laury, Ministry Lead at Chaminade College Preparatory, St. Louis, MO, sends us this update.
On March 7, 2023, Chaminade College Preparatory, St. Louis, MO, hosted a community screening of "The Letter: A Message for the Earth." The film follows five people from around the world invited by Pope Francis to Rome to share how the climate crisis has affected them. Area schools and parishes were invited to attend this after-school event. Students in the Chaminade Sustainability Corps helped brainstorm, plan, promote, and host the screening. Those in attendance were validated when they were told that any attempt to understand the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth was a form of activism. As each person exited the screening, they received a token in which they pledged to live a more simple life.
We also partnered with the Spanish Club in hosting The Pulsera Project. The Pulsera Project sells handcrafted bracelets which help support over 200 fair trade jobs for Nicaraguan and Guatemalan artisans and programs in their communities that impact educational scholarships, healthcare, housing, environmental initiatives, workers' rights, and more.
Dear Mark and students of Chaminade College Prep, I'm happy you saw the film, "The Letter". I watched it too a month or so ago. I hope that it had the same effect on you as it did on me: LET'S DO SOMETHING TO SAVE OUR PLANET! Keep up the good work!
Good going, you guys at CC Prep St. Louis!! Mother Earth is grateful, I am sure. Aloha, Bro. Tom Spring
