A new faith-based health center run by the Marianist Sisters began in November 2025, in Tchébébé, Togo, to provide basic healthcare to people of all ages and social classes.
We are pleased to share the initial steps and achievements of the Lorenza Longaretti Peripheral Care Unit (USP) in Tchébébé, Togo (center manager: Sr. Marie Adèle Awidaya, FMI). Opened on November 17, 2025, this non-profit, faith-based health center is run by the Marianist Sisters and is dedicated to providing quality basic healthcare to people of all ages and social classes.
The population has welcomed our mission with great confidence. The center's activities include:
• General medicine: between mid-November 2025 and January 2026, we treated more than 900 patients.
• Maternity: a reference point for prenatal consultations (39 so far) and assistance during childbirth.
• Mental health and laboratory: clinical analyses of hematology, biochemistry, and parasitology to meet the needs of the territory.
• Social assistance: We continue the sisters' historic commitment to the most vulnerable cases and the management of the local pharmacy.
The center is run by a team of 12 professionals, consisting of 5 religious sisters and 7 lay people. Together, they work in a spirit of collaboration and dedication, integrating medical care with daily prayer to relieve the sick.
Like any new venture in rural areas, there are significant challenges. Despite the difficulties, we look to the future with gratitude. Our work is a song of thanksgiving, a true “Magnificat” lived alongside the rural population of Togo.
