Read a summary of Pope Leo XIV's video message to the Network of Universities on the tenth anniversary of the Laudato Si’ encyclical.

On May 24, 2025, the tenth anniversary of the release of the Laudato Si’ encyclical, Pope Leo sent a video message to the Network of Universities for the Care of Our Common Home, gathered at the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Pope Leo spoke about the efforts of Universities to reconcile public debt and ecological debt. In this Jubilee Year of Hope 2025, the Jubilee tradition of forgiveness of sins and cancellation of debts, combined with the reflections of the Church Fathers, can bring about spiritual, economic, and ecological changes within the Church today. This message was a theme for the World Day of Peace.

Pope Leo addressed university rectors and encouraged them to pursue the mission, serving as builders of bridges and working towards ecological, social, and environmental justice. He concluded the video message by blessing all those present for their service and dedication and expressing his gratitude for their work and efforts.
