Sign Up for the Marianist Youth Camp!

Jose J. Matos Auffant, Executive Director at Tecaboca: Camp and Retreat Center, TX, sends us this update.

Registration for summer sessions at THE Marianist youth camp continues at the Tecaboca website for the Boys Camp and the Girls Camp in June. The Boys Camp in July includes a sizable group from Mexico and continues to attract international families seeking a Catholic summer camp for their children.  The camp co-directors, Bro. Justin Quiroz, S.M. and Yasmin Rodriguez are excited to welcome staff and campers!

All sessions are led by seasonal staff, the majority recruited from college campus ministries in the San Antonio area, in particular from St. Mary's University, a Marianist institution. Also, Counselors In Training are offered two levels to prepare them well for future summer camp employment.  These young adults are then eligible to serve at Tecaboca since the training program equips them for the camp apostolate within a Marianist framework.

At Tecaboca, all campers rotate among different activities during the mornings, including archery, riflery, fishing, woodworking, arts and crafts, and discovery walks. During the afternoons, we spend most of the time refreshing by the waterfront, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. By the evening, campers enjoy evening events like cowboy cookouts and games. Campers get to stay overnight for one or two weeks, building community among themselves and with the staff.

One of the greatest aspects of Tecaboca camps is the opportunity for all campers to fully participate and even lead daily prayer moments: organizing the living rosary at our beautiful Rosary Garden, baptismal meditations by the waterfront, praise and worship at the Chaminade Chapel, Night Psalms stargazing, and even the Canticle of the Sun by the Big Cross! These daily prayer moments complement the Sunday liturgies presided over by Marianist priests from San Antonio who are attentive to the faith journey of our youth and young adults.
