Matt Naveau, Lay Marianist and Spiritus Lay Community Coordinator, shares with us this update.
Spiritus, the Marianist Lay community formed at the completion of the Queen of Apostles parish (QAC), held a community gathering focused on caring for creation on April 21. At the event, the gathered group of approximately 60 learned more about integral ecology, shared how they individually respond to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor, and discussed how Spiritus should take action as a community.
Inspired by the theme of Earth Day 2024, the community made a commitment to avoid the use of single-use plastics at all Spiritus-hosted events. Like most Marianist communities, Spiritus regularly shares food and drink together, and the community’s commitment to avoiding plastic waste by utilizing reusables and compostables will tangibly reduce plastic waste going into the landfill.
Spiritus plans to take further actions in pursuit of integral ecology and hopes that this public community commitment will inspire others in the Marianist family to join them.

Good going, Spiritus!! All communities can do likewise!! Aloha, Bro. Tom S.
Thanks for sharing this Matt. I'm happy to see the Marianist Encounters commitment continues in Spiritus!
Dear Members of the Spiritus Lay Community, thanks for your fine example of saving the earth by not using plastic at your gatherings. I hope others follow your example!!!
