Bro. Jack Ventura, SM, Ministry Lead of MFEP and Director of Mission Integration at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory, Hollywood, FL, sends us this update.
One of the goals of the Global Impact of Education is to educate others and ourselves to welcome all, especially opening up to the most Vulnerable and Marginalized. Luigina Billisi and Caytie Lagrange submitted the following update—our Women Engaged Club moderators.
In Honor of Mother's Day, our Women Engaged Club collected Mother's Day Celebration Baskets for Women in Distress. Women in Distress of Broward County, Inc. is the only nationally accredited, state-certified, full-service domestic violence serving Broward County.
This year, the Women Engaged invited each homeroom the opportunity to donate a complete basket of beauty products to create Mother's Day Baskets for women who live in the shelter. For the last three years, our girls have worked hard requesting donations from students, faculty, and community members who they feel can donate items for these baskets. This year was our most significant success, with 50 baskets for mothers at the shelter, doubling our number of donated baskets from last year. This school-wide project allows our students and staff to extend their kindness and generosity to a local community group in
need.
Domestic violence is a particular population that goes unnoticed and needs awareness. A few months ago, the Women's Engaged Club had a speaker from Women in Distress who spoke to the Women Engaged group about recognizing toxic relationships, how to get help, and explaining the mission of Women in Distress in Broward County.
Hooray, Jack!! Those needy Mothers got a feeling of being respected and cared for!! Hooray to you and the gang at school!!
Aloha, Bro. Tom Spring
I second Bro. Larry's comment! This is a new, vital aspect of the Marianist Encounters Project! Thanks!
Dear Luigina and Caytie, great job! You made Mothers' Day a wonderful day for women who deserve to feel good about themselves! THANKS!
