World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation, September 1, 2025

Updated: Aug 27

Read Pope Leo XIV’s message for the World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation, September 1, 2025, wherein he calls us to become seeds of hope and peace.

In 2015, Pope Francis chose September 1 as the World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation. This year’s theme is Seeds of Peace and Hope. This year is also the tenth anniversary celebration of the Laudato Si encyclical. Remembering this year as the Jubilee year of hope, 2025, we are called to be Pilgrims of Hope.

Jesus used the image of the seed to proclaim the kingdom of God. From seeds comes new life and the promise of new beginnings. In Christ, we become seeds—seeds of peace and hope.

During this coming ecumenical initiative of the Season of Creation, which runs from September 1 to October 4, let us remember the words of the prophet Isaiah, who tells us that the Spirit of God can make an arid desert into a garden, a place of tranquility and rest (Is 32: 15-18). Let us till and keep the garden of the world (Gen 2:15). Care for creation becomes an expression of our faith and humanity. “Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue. . . .” (Laudato Si, 217).

Let us pray for an outpouring of the Spirit from on high so that the seeds may bear an abundant harvest of peace and hope.
