Franciscan Jubilee Year for 2026

Pope Leo XIV has announced 2026 as a special Jubilee Year to commemorate the eight hundredth anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.

The Franciscan Jubilee Year, running from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, invites all believers and communities to adopt the simple and fraternal lifestyle of St. Francis of Assisi. Building on the momentum of the 2025 Ordinary Jubilee, this period focuses on spiritual renewal through peace, fraternity, and a profound respect for creation. While specifically honoring the various Franciscan religious and secular orders, the invitation extends to all people of faith to rediscover the value of simplicity and collective care for our common home.

To mark this 800th anniversary of St. Francis, the Apostolic Penitentiary has granted a plenary indulgence to those who participate in Jubilee initiatives with a spirit of inner conversion. This grace can be obtained through pilgrimages to Franciscan churches or dedicated sites, though those unable to travel—such as the sick or elderly—may participate by offering their prayers and sufferings from home. Ultimately, the year serves as a call to action, urging the faithful to transform their spirituality into concrete charity, foster justice, and care for both humanity and

the environment as inseparable gifts.
