Bro. Dennis Bautista, SM, Community and Novice Director of the Marianist Novitiate at Mount Saint John, sends us this update.

Fr. Oscar Vasquez, SM Provincial Superior of the Marianist Province of the U.S., blessed the newly-built solar array panels during a special prayer service at Mount Saint John Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Nearly 100 Marianists, collaborators, and friends of Mount Saint John participated in this blessing under sunny conditions on the summer solstice date.

According to Jeff Bohrer, director of facilities at Mount Saint John, the 1,920 solar panels make the property "net zero" -- where the system produces just as much or more energy than consumed.

Bro. Bob Metzger, SM, chair of the Mount Saint John campus council, emceed the event, with Sr. Leanne Jablonski, director of the Marianist Environmental Education Center, and representatives of Melink Solar sharing remarks on the significance of the investment.

Assisting with the blessing was Bro. Mitch Schweikart, SM, Sr. Emily Sandoval, FMI, and Novice Chicago Schuller.
