Bro. Jack Ventura, SM, Ministry Lead of MFEP and Director of Mission Integration at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory, Hollywood, FL, sends us this update.
During the week of February 18-21, the CMCP educational community participates in “Service Week.” Service week is an opportunity for our students and faculty to live out Goal 1 of the Marianist Family Encounters Project. For four days, students and faculty members depart campus and head to various non-profit agencies, parks and beaches, senior centers, and animal shelters for an opportunity to respond to the needs of the larger community. There are over 20 organizations of service projects that our students can choose from during the week. The result is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our local charitable and service organizations in the larger community.

In conjunction with Service Week, our Board of Trustees also gives a day of service. On Saturday, February 19, members of the board volunteered for several hours at Feeding South Florida in Pembrook Pines, FL. Feeding South Florida provides food assistance and other resources and support to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and hunger in Broward County. They are the largest provider of emergency food assistance in South Florida. Our volunteer assignments include inspecting, sorting, and repacking donated foods in preparation for community distribution. Like our students and faculty, members of our board are living the Characteristics of Marianist Education and the goals of the Marianist Encounters Project.

Dear Jack, thanks to your students and to the board for their witness and service to the poor. Good work!
