Ecological Initiatives at Colegio San José

Colegio San José’s faculty, staff, and students participated in community service in the local Rio Piedras community. They undertook trail cleaning, weeding, and replanting, and other activities.

Colegio San José has made conscious efforts to strengthen its presence and engagement with the local Rio Piedras community. In line with this goal, Colegio San José has established a partnership with the Capetillo Garden located within this community.

Huerto Capetillo (Capetillo Garden)

On September 13, 2025, faculty members participated in a community service activity, assisting with the cleaning of the trails in the Capetillo Forest and weeding the garden areas. Huerto Capetillo is located in the Capetillo Community of Río Piedras and serves individuals with limited resources as well as migrant communities from various Caribbean countries. The harvested produce is shared with community members, and any surplus is sold to raise funds. The garden also includes a tutoring space where our students provide academic support to children and youth from the community.

Later, on January 24, 2026, ninth-grade students (Class of 2029) visited the garden to prune shrubs, clean trails, replant, and weed. As part of their participation, they received an orientation on the mission of the garden and the crops that are grown there.

Centro Ecológico Buen Pastor of Caguas

On November 15, 2025, members of the National Junior Honor Society visited the Centro Ecológico Buen Pastor in Caguas, where they assisted with replanting and cleaned green areas, contributing to the site's maintenance and preservation.

Teachers and staff also generously donated toys to support the children of Buen Consejo, a community with limited resources. In collaboration with local community leaders, we organized and distributed gifts to bring joy to the children and their families.
