In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the publication of the encyclical Laudato Si’, Pope Leo XIV issued the Decree for the Mass for the Care of Creation.

Pope Francis promoted the pastoral care of creation through his encyclical Laudato Si. Pope Leo wrote for the World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation 2025: “For ten years, the encyclical Laudato Si’ has accompanied the Catholic Church and many people of goodwill: may it continue to inspire us, and may integral ecology increasingly be chosen and shared as the path to follow. In this way, the seeds of hope will multiply, to be ‘guarded and cultivated’ through the grace of our great and unfailing Hope, the Risen Christ.”

In the past several years, there has been an increased appreciation for care for creation. Pope Francis promoted a Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on September 1. This year, Pope Leo XIV encourages our participation in the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on September 1, 2025, with its theme of “Seeds of Peace and Hope.”

On July 9, Pope Leo celebrated the first Mass for the Care of Creation during a private Eucharistic celebration at his Papal residence in Castel Gandolfo. At the celebration, Pope Leo encouraged all Christians to embrace the Church’s mission to bring peace and reconciliation to our world and all creation. Pope Leo spoke about peace in view of global warming and armed conflicts that afflict our world. Pope Leo spoke of the heart of the Jubilee, in which there is hope. We have seen and met with Jesus, the Savior of the world, who still sovereignly calms the storm.

Pope Leo ended his homily with the words of St Augustine, who praised God, saying, "Your works praise you so that we may love you, and we love you so that your works may praise you.”

We will be on a break for the Summer season. We will resume in August 2025.
